Let's Talk about Paper
Paper has natural characteristics which we love. Our approach to conservation treatment is to stabilize the paper without changing its charming qualities. Some common issues with paper include tears, cockling, and staining caused by light, moisture, mold, adhesives, soot, and particulates introduced in manufacturing. Some paper can be washed and mended, and inks have varying solubility.
Before
This is an example of a travel document from the early 1900s. It has seven different inks, each soluble under different circumstances. The paper has been taped, and the adhesive has been absorbed into the paper's fibers. But we can still fix it...
After
This is just one example of what is possible with paper conservation. If you have a piece that you think would benefit from conservation treatment, bring it in and we will be happy to evaluate it and give you a quote.

Current conservation framing techniques can help prevent or reduce the development of many of these issues. After paper conservation treatment, proper framing is an important step towards preservation of your piece.
