Shadowbox this. Display That.
A collection of watches. A sample of peat from the Scottish Highlands. A spiderweb belt buckle. What do these things have in common? They have all been framed with care at Clapp & Tuttle. Many objects, big or small, can be framed in a shadowbox or display case for your viewing pleasure. Below are some examples of what is possible.
19th century Sword
This 19th century sword is an ancestral heirloom that the customer wished to display and preserve. It is mounted on a silk backing with soft suede straps secured firmly at 6 locations. The straps are strategically placed so that they blend in and not distract from the sword while still providing the support necessary.
The interior walls of the shadowbox are made of wood and finished in warm black with red undertones. While the dark panels of the frame contrast sharply with gold, the whole frame is expertly worked creating a wholesome effect as you might expect in nature with soft edges, gentle corners, and rich color.
New York City Police
When a New York City police officer retired, his friends were excited to frame his badge, patches, and cards representing 20 years of dedication and service. When they presented it as a retirement gift it was a clear expression of respect, but also of
gratitude and love.

The items are mounted on a navy blue cotton that has been adhered to an archival board, and is fitted into the frame with spacers to match. The frame is a two inch American cove made in mahogany with a natural finish. It was designed to have a deep rabbet in order to create the shadowbox effect needed to prevent the objects from touching the glass that protects them.
