Weaving Your Story
Sewing takes a steady hand, patience, and tenacity. The same care should be shown to the presentation of these woven creations. Don't forget, fabric can be as delicate as paper. Whether it is hundreds of years old or freshly created, we'll ensure its stability for
years to come.
Modern Cross Stitch
Many of the works on fabric that come into Clapp & Tuttle are handmade by our customers. The care that goes into these creations is clear to us, and we share in the pride of being a part of their presentation.
For modern cross stitch works, the material is pinned in place along the edge of an archival board and the remaining fabric is wrapped around the back. There, it is neatly stitched into place using a custom grid method. This method provides the perfect supportive structure necessary without using adhesives.
A Family Heirloom
This is a large 19th century handmade Russian pillowcase. Threads were carefully stitched in a checkerboard pattern throughout, distributing the weight of the pillowcase evenly. These threads match the color of the textile, and blend together with the existing stitches of the pillowcase. This mounting method allows the pillowcase to maintain its natural shape, while creating the illusion that it is floating in place within the frame.
